Travel Tuesday: Cats in the car

20120702-214353.jpgI get the amazing priveldge of transporting 3 cats over 2100 miles in my car. This is going to be a TREAT!

So, how do you keep 3 cats quiet for threee sraight days without sedatives? I am not sure I have the answer, yet.

But I am working on it.

Luckily, I drive a hatchback and the seats completely fold down. So the cats can have the entire back of the car. I bought a dog grate to block the front from the back and ensure that the cats can’t sneak out the doors during pitstops.

They will have food, water and a litterbox. We invested in new, soft-sided cat carriers. And we will be rehearsing our “dance” of getting all 3 in and out of the car.

My nerves are mostly centered around the hotel rooms. I have heard horror stories of cats getting in the walls or up into the boxsprings. A thorough investigation of each room will be critical.

Not to mention that we will also have two dogs with us.

This could drive me to drink. Oh wait, I already do drink.

I am approaching 40 and have been married since my early 20's. I have become more than a little frustrated with having to answer incredibly personal questions about my choice to not have children. It is apparently taboo to talk about religion and politics, but confronting me about my reproductive choices is fair game. It is not a choice I made alone, quickly or lightly. My husband and I made it together. I am not "withholding" children or grandchildren from anyone. There is an astonishing lack of understanding over the idea that it is an actual choice, to have a child or not. There is also an amazing lack of support, discussion and resources for those like me, that have made the choice. This is not a blog for kid-haters, or mocking people for having kids. It is a place where we can talk about living full lives, without kids, and without guilt.
