Movie Review Monday: Contraband

Contraband (2012) - IMDbWho doesn’t want to see movies with Mark Wahlberg?  We went to see this with friends.

Here is the synopsis from IMDB:  Mark Wahlberg leads the cast of Contraband, an action-thriller about a man trying to stay out of a world he worked hard to leave behind and the family he’ll do anything to protect. Set in New Orleans, the film explores the cutthroat underground world of international smuggling – full of desperate criminals and corrupt officials, high-stakes and big payoffs-where loyalty rarely exists and death is one wrong turn away. Chris Farraday (Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best-running contraband-to settle Andy’s debt. Chris is a legendary smuggler and quickly assembles a crew with the help of his best friend, Sebastian (Ben Foster), to head to Panama and return with millions in counterfeit bills. Things quickly fall apart and with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target. This movie was pure entertainment.  And some eye candy.  I have NO issue admitting either of those.  It was a lot of fun.  Giovanni Ribisi can’t quite pull off a great scumbag and Kate Beckinsale should stick to Underworld.  But the story was pretty well put together and there were some great details included (iodine to reveal starch in paper?).  And what girl doesn’t like staring at Mark Wahlberg.  I had never really thought about what it takes to move cargo and how much of it there is on a ship.  Or how it goes through customs. So that was interesting to me (if even accurate).

My Rating (1-5 Gummy Bears) –  It is not going to win any awards but it was FUN!

About nfoste2245

I am approaching 40 and have been married since my early 20's. I have become more than a little frustrated with having to answer incredibly personal questions about my choice to not have children. It is apparently taboo to talk about religion and politics, but confronting me about my reproductive choices is fair game. It is not a choice I made alone, quickly or lightly. My husband and I made it together. I am not "withholding" children or grandchildren from anyone. There is an astonishing lack of understanding over the idea that it is an actual choice, to have a child or not. There is also an amazing lack of support, discussion and resources for those like me, that have made the choice. This is not a blog for kid-haters, or mocking people for having kids. It is a place where we can talk about living full lives, without kids, and without guilt.
