Race Report: Rock the Block 5K

imageSo, I don’t usually post pictures of myself but this one was cute.  And there is Michael.  We did the Rock the Block 5k last night in Winston.  The race sold out at 900 people and had a glow in the dark theme.  So we were covered in glow sticks and bracelets and off we went.  It was chilly last night (low 50’s) so everyone was happy to get started.

Let me say, the course SUCKED.  It was an out and back with all the downhills on the way out, and the uphills on the way the back.  The course was SO narrow that at several points, it was single file.  SINGLE FILE.  On a RACE course.  And then, once the really fast people started coming back, it was even more narrow.

So you couldn’t even take advantage of the downhill to bank some time.  But, having said ALL of that, the race was fun. People seemed to be having a good time, including us. There was a band at the end that was decent. Doing cover songs.  But the free pizza and beer line was a little too long to stand it while getting cold so we ended up going out for Mexican Food.

This was all the idea of a good friend of mine so thanks to J and M for encouraging us to join them for this race! And congrats to Michael as he set a new 5k PR for himself.

About nfoste2245

I am approaching 40 and have been married since my early 20's. I have become more than a little frustrated with having to answer incredibly personal questions about my choice to not have children. It is apparently taboo to talk about religion and politics, but confronting me about my reproductive choices is fair game. It is not a choice I made alone, quickly or lightly. My husband and I made it together. I am not "withholding" children or grandchildren from anyone. There is an astonishing lack of understanding over the idea that it is an actual choice, to have a child or not. There is also an amazing lack of support, discussion and resources for those like me, that have made the choice. This is not a blog for kid-haters, or mocking people for having kids. It is a place where we can talk about living full lives, without kids, and without guilt.
