Regarding: Labor

Labor DayToday is Labor Day.  I actually had to look up the origin of the National Labor Day Holiday.  My conservative, Republican friends will LOVE that Labor Day is routed in the history of the union strike of Pullman Workers in Illinois in 1894.  And that the national holiday was actually rushed through Congress  because US Marshalls and the US Army killed some union people (13 killed, 57 wounded) and the government feared more conflict.  I am getting my information here.

Anyhoo, so most of us get a day off today.  And won’t do much really to remember the origins or roots of the day.  I bet I can count on one hand the number of people I know personally who know why it is even a holiday.  But if you happen to know one, thank a Union Worker today!

It also marks the traditional end of summer.  Jump in a pool, throw something on a grill and get your last sunburn of the year!  Enjoy!!!

About nfoste2245

I am approaching 40 and have been married since my early 20's. I have become more than a little frustrated with having to answer incredibly personal questions about my choice to not have children. It is apparently taboo to talk about religion and politics, but confronting me about my reproductive choices is fair game. It is not a choice I made alone, quickly or lightly. My husband and I made it together. I am not "withholding" children or grandchildren from anyone. There is an astonishing lack of understanding over the idea that it is an actual choice, to have a child or not. There is also an amazing lack of support, discussion and resources for those like me, that have made the choice. This is not a blog for kid-haters, or mocking people for having kids. It is a place where we can talk about living full lives, without kids, and without guilt.
