Today is Labor Day. I actually had to look up the origin of the National Labor Day Holiday. My conservative, Republican friends will LOVE that Labor Day is routed in the history of the union strike of Pullman Workers in Illinois in 1894. And that the national holiday was actually rushed through Congress because US Marshalls and the US Army killed some union people (13 killed, 57 wounded) and the government feared more conflict. I am getting my information here.
Anyhoo, so most of us get a day off today. And won’t do much really to remember the origins or roots of the day. I bet I can count on one hand the number of people I know personally who know why it is even a holiday. But if you happen to know one, thank a Union Worker today!
It also marks the traditional end of summer. Jump in a pool, throw something on a grill and get your last sunburn of the year! Enjoy!!!
