Food Friday: Sour Cream Coffee Cake

an episode of seinfeld made me want to buy this

I grew up eating Drake’s.  I LOVED Drake’s Devil Dogs and Coffee Cakes.  But when I moved to NC, I couldn’t get Drake’s anymore.  I was beyond sad.  And for a while, my family would still keep me in Devil Dogs and Coffee Cakes.  But then they moved as well.

I found this recipe when I was hunting for a knock-off of the Drake’s Coffee Cake.  I LOVE this recipe.  THANK YOU Barefoot Contessa.  And recently, I was back in Boston and found my beloved Drake’s Coffee Cakes.  NOT EVEN CLOSE.  What I had built up in my mind from my childhood didn’t even compare to this recipe.

I forgot to take pictures of the actual mixing and ingredient process (I am still learning), but here is the end result.

I am not a fan of glazes so I leave it off.  But there is one in the recipe that makes the cake even prettier.

About nfoste2245

I am approaching 40 and have been married since my early 20's. I have become more than a little frustrated with having to answer incredibly personal questions about my choice to not have children. It is apparently taboo to talk about religion and politics, but confronting me about my reproductive choices is fair game. It is not a choice I made alone, quickly or lightly. My husband and I made it together. I am not "withholding" children or grandchildren from anyone. There is an astonishing lack of understanding over the idea that it is an actual choice, to have a child or not. There is also an amazing lack of support, discussion and resources for those like me, that have made the choice. This is not a blog for kid-haters, or mocking people for having kids. It is a place where we can talk about living full lives, without kids, and without guilt.
